Our Specialties

Our board certified radiologists are fellowship trained in seven different sub specialties. With our extensive training, Premier can help broaden the scope of your practice to meet the ever-changing needs of referring providers.

Neuroradiologists specialize in the interpretation of x-rays, MRI, and CT exams of the brain, spine and spinal cord, face and neck, and peripheral nerves. Many times, these physicians are called upon to diagnose strokes, tumors, genetic conditions, aneurysms, Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders. They interpret and perform angiograms which detect abnormalities or blockages in the blood vessels.

Musculoskeletal Radiology is the radiology specialty that focuses on the bones, joints, ligaments and tendons. These radiologists specialize in evaluating diseases of the musculoskeletal system including trauma and sports medicine injuries, all forms of arthritis, fractures, fluid located in and around the joints, and bone and soft tissue tumors.

This specialty of radiology encompasses the diagnosis of pulmonary, cardiac and vascular disease. They utilize radiography, computed tomography (CT), ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to diagnose lung, heart and vascular diseases. Cardiothoracic radiologists have a wide range of experience in adult and pediatric cardiac medicine and chest medicine. They also play an important role in the diagnosis of lung cancers and lung disease using the low dose CT lung cancer screening exam.

Abdominal Imagers focus on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the abdomen and pelvis. These specialists use radiography or X-Ray, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, CT, PET and MRI to diagnose abdominal and pelvic disorders and diseases.

Like other physicians, a radiologist must have graduated from an accredited medical school and earned an MD degree. He or she must have passed a licensing examination, performed a year of internship, and completed at least four years of graduate medical education (residency) in radiology.

MRI radiologists specialize in the interpretation of MRI exams including abdominal, pelvic, and musculoskeletal imaging. These subspecialists concentrate on MRI exams for diseases and conditions affecting major body organs and systems including the lungs, liver, stomach, spine, pelvis, kidneys, colon, pancreas, bones and joints.

Interventional Radiology uses minimally invasive image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat diseases in nearly every organ system. The concept behind interventional radiology is to diagnose and treat patients using the least invasive techniques currently available in order to minimize risk to the patient and improve health outcomes. These physicians perform angiography, angioplasty and stent placement, biopsy procedures, line and tube placement, uterine fibroid embolization, fluid and abscess drainage, cancer treatments, kyphoplasty or vertebroplasty to treat compression fractures in the spine, and a host of other procedures to treat a wide variety of medical problems.

Breast Imaging is a subspecialty of radiology which focuses on the diagnosis of breast diseases and conditions. These specialists use 2D and 3D mammography, breast ultrasound and breast MRI to determine a variety of breast diseases including breast cancer.
